Meet Our Staff
Maria Armendaris joined The Creative Learning Center in 2014 as the Spanish teacher. She graduated from Miami Dade College in Miami, FL with a Bachelor's Degree on Exceptional Student Education. She has a classroom certification for grades PreK-12, an Early Childhood Certification, and an ESL (English Second Language) Certification. Maria has more than 10 years experience as an Early Childhood teacher and enjoys making learning fun and interesting to children. She was born in Mexico, in a small town known as "La Bella Cenicienta del Pacifico" (The Pacific Beautiful Cinderella). In her spare time, Maria enjoys cooking, gardening, and reading.
Kim Ashcraft is a graduate of Sam Houston State University with a degree in Criminal Justice (specializing in Social Work). Kim joined the Creative Learning Center staff in 2005. She and her husband Kevin have three children: Taylor, Garrett and Grant. Kim enjoys visiting her daughter in New York, traveling with Kevin and Garrett to watch Grant play college football, vacations with her extended family and reading. Kim loves children and currently teaches a preschool class at CLC.
April Busch - joined CLC in 2010 as the music teacher and is currently as teacher in the Tweener room as well. Previously, she worked in childcare for eight years. She loves teaching children and enjoys sharing music with them. April has four children, Sierra, Dylan, Madison, and Noah. She enjoys traveling, camping, reading, and soccer.
Maggie Dismuke was born and raised in Indiana and has a bachelors of science in Elementary Education from Indiana University. She moved to Texas in 2008 to support her than fiancé in a career opportunity. Maggie and her husband, Jonathan have two kids Anna Kate and George. She has immensely enjoyed the last 6 years staying home and raising the kids. Outside of the classroom Maggie enjoys playing tennis, cooking, reading, traveling and spending time with family. She is excited to join the wonderful CLC team and is looking forward to teaching!
Kristen Elewski grew up in Huffman, TX and graduated from the Dental Assisting program at Lonestar College in 2001. She married her high school sweetheart, Chris, in 2006 and has 3 kids (6th grade, 2nd grade, and Prek 5). Kristen was previously in the CLC Teal Room during the 2016-2017 school year before her family was transferred to New Orleans. Her family missed Texas so much that they came back as soon as they could! She is excited to be back in the Teal Room and is looking forward to an exciting year getting to know her class. Kristen is currently enrolled in the Childcare Professional program through Penn Foster Career School.
Beth Fluker - grew up in the Midwest and attended Valparaiso University where she studied education and music. Several years ago she moved to Texas to teach first grade. Beth is married and has three boys. Her favorite pastimes are running and playing piano in the praise band at church. Beth began teaching Pre-K 4's at the Creative Learning Center in 2008. She enjoys watching her students get excited about learning.
Mary Frausto - is a graduate of The University of Texas in San Antonio with a Bachelor of Science in Health. She is married and has two wonderful boys. Mary enjoys volunteering at her kids' school, working out, and traveling. She has always enjoyed helping and motivating young children. Their positive energy and curiosity is a fun environment to be around.
Tara Fontano joined CLC in 2019 as a music and science teacher. She was born and raised in Las Vegas and graduated with a bachelors degree in Elementary Education from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. She taught second grade prior to moving to Houston in 2006 and has continued to teach children of all ages, primarily through Sunday School and other church classes. She and her husband have 4 children who all graduated from CLC. They love spending time as a family and their favorite things to do together are camping, traveling and playing games.
Sarah Grider- joined CLC in 2017 as a CDO teacher. She is a certified yoga instructor, working in the local community when she is not at CLC. Previously, she worked in research involving social and emotional development; childcare initiatives; and other interesting topics. Sarah has six children, via birth and marriage (blended family). She enjoys traveling, cooking, reading, and yoga.
Tonya Hakes has been a preschool teacher in the atascocita community for 12 years. Tonya and her husband Harlo are associate pastors at their church of 20 years, where she is Sunday school teacher and children’s church leader/director. They have 4 children, Chelcee, Halie, Micah and Noah and 5 grandbabies! Tonya loves seeing children learn through play and creativity! When she is not teaching she can be found on a Baseball or football field! When Tonya gets time for herself she loves to work on Bible Journaling and sew! Tonya is excited and Blessed to be a part of the family here at CLC.
Robin Hart, a Mississippi native, graduated with her Bachelors of Science
degree and Masters degree in Agricultural Economics from Alcorn State
University. And received a 4-H Youth Development Specialization endorsement
from Louisiana State University. She educated youth throughout south
Louisiana for 10 years as a 4-H Youth Development Agent with the Louisiana
State University Agricultural Center before moving to Humble. This will be
her first year at CLC. She and her husband, Rashad, are the parents of two
sons, Morgan and Dalton. Robin enjoys spending time with family, traveling,
making crafts, and being a soccer mom.
Lindsay Hemmer has lived in the Atascocita area for 30 plus years and previously worked for Humble Independent School District for 6 years as a third grade teacher. This will be her first year teaching at CLC. She and her husband, Ryan, have two little girls, Brynn and Briar, who currently attend CLC. Lindsay enjoys playing golf with her husband, traveling, exercising, and playing with her girls. She’s looking forward to an amazing year!
Ruth Lentz grew up in East Texas. She has an Early Childhood degree from Lamar and a Masters in Library Science from UHCL. Ruth is GT and ESL certified. She has 5 grandchildren and enjoys gardening, refinishing furniture, and scuba diving. When her children were young, Ruth established a weekday ministry at her church that served the community with Mothers Day Out and preschool through Kindergarten. After teaching 24 years in kindergarten through 2nd grade, Ruth retired from public school to begin the next journey of her life.
Maryke Meij grew up in South Africa and made Texas her new home since 1994. She attended the University of Stellenbosch where she majored in Psychology and Education. She has 25 years of teaching experience and for the last 8 years she has been in private practice as a Dyslexia Therapist. She is married to Gert and they have two daughters, a son in law and a grandson. In her free time, she loves to walk, read, knit, travel and do Bible study. She loves watching her students light up when they make new discoveries.
Eleanor Miller - is a veteran Kindergarten teacher with 23 years experience teaching in Illinois, Missouri, and Michigan. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Elementary education and a Master's degree in Early Childhood Development. For the past nine years, Eleanor has been teaching preschool. One of her favorite things about teaching preschool is seeing the "light bulb go on" in her students when they understand concepts being taught to them. That "ah-ha" moment is very special to Eleanor, and she finds being with and teaching her students to be very rewarding.
DeeDee Mills - grew up in south central Missouri. She graduated from Drury College in Springfield, Missouri with a BA in Business Administration and Communications. She is married and has two sons as well as two energetic dogs. DeeDee has been teaching preschool at the Creative Learning Center since 2005 and also serves as our Chapel teacher. In her free time she enjoys sewing, walking, serving in her church on the Children's Ministry Committee, and volunteering at her son's school.
Carol Myron - graduated with a degree in pre-school teaching. She taught in Scotland for 9 years in the education department's pre-school nursery system, 2 years in a community nursery, and 8 years in a council run workplace nursery before moving to the United States in 2001. Prior to coming to the Creative Learning Center in 2006, Carol also did some preschool volunteer work. She and her husband, Walter, and their two boys Scott and Craig, have lived in Summerwood since 2002. Outside of CLC, Carol does a lot of volunteer work at the high school and completed the Houston to Austin MS 150 from 2012-2016 and plans to continue cycling. She also loves to swim, practice yoga, and spend time with her family.
Dana Nelson is a graduate of The University of Houston at Clear Lake with a Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education through fourth grade. She worked 5 years as a first grade teacher in the Galena Park Independent School District. This will be her first year teaching at CLC. She and her husband, Steve, have two children, Halle and Dylan. Dana enjoys spending time with her family, making crafts and spending time outdoors.
Gretchen Roberts - is originally from Upstate New York. Gretchen and her husband moved down south in 2003 and they have spent time in both Louisiana and Texas. She has her Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education and her Master's in Elementary Education. For the past 11 years, Gretchen has enjoyed working in the preschool classroom. When not teaching, she enjoys spending time with her husband, Brian, and three children, Logan, Mason and Emme. Sports are a big part of this family's life, so she can often be found on a baseball, football or soccer field.
My name is Ruth Roos, and I am a Texas certified teacher. I graduated from University of Houston in 2006, with a degree in interdisciplinary studies. I taught 1.5 years at Oaks Elementary in Atascocita, then after I married my husband, Mark, we moved to Weatherford, Tx. I worked in Fort Worth for 5 years, all in kindergarten. I was the GT teacher, ESL teacher, and team leader within that time. In 2010, we were transferred to Anchorage, Alaska, and I had my first baby, Shelby. I was a substitute teacher in Alaska, the fall before she was born, but after her birth I “semi-retired,” and stayed home with my girl. I have 2 other sons, Ryan is 5 and Mathew is almost 3. The boys were born in Texas and Shelby got here as fast as she could! I have recently been on the CLC school board while Shelby and Ryan attended, from September 2015 to May of 2018. Mathew is currently in the tweener class! I love teaching and am excited to be a part of CLC in the classroom!
Shauna Suderman grew up in Canada and attended The University of Manitoba where she received her Bachelor of Nursing Degree. Shauna and her husband moved to Texas in 2002 in search of adventure. Shauna is married and has three energetic children. She enjoys volunteering at her children’s school, children’s church and mentoring at a local elementary school. Shauna’s hobbies include working out, baking, reading and traveling. She has always enjoyed helping young children and watching them discover and master new tasks.
Jennifer Victor - joined the Creative Learning Center team in 2014. She's originally from Virginia and graduated from Liberty University with a major in Family and Consumer Sciences. After moving to Texas in 2001 with her husband Brian, she went through the Alternative Certification Program and then on to teach elementary school for four years. Before coming to CLC, she was a stay at home mom for eight years to her two children Hannah and Noah. In her free time, she enjoys organizing, baking, shopping and traveling to new places. She loves the sweet personalities of the preschoolers and can't wait to get to know them better!
Laurie Wallach - graduated from Illinois State University with her undergraduate degrees in Social Sciences and Education and a Master's degree in Educational Leadership from Dominican University. She is originally from the Chicago suburbs where she was a teacher, preschool assistant coordinator, and later an elementary school Assistant Principal. Laurie, her husband, and two daughters recently moved from the New Orleans area where they resided for the last five years. She is very excited to now be a Texan and teach preschool! When she is not teaching she loves spending time with her family and friends, volunteering on the PTO at her daughters' school, cooking, and crafting.
Pam White - has been part of the Creative Learning Center staff since 2003. Her granddaughters attended CLC for two years prior to that, during which time she fell in love with the school and staff. Pam can honestly say that each day that she comes to work, she leaves with a smile which the kids put on her face. She learns something from her students every single day and can't imagine doing anything else. In her free time she enjoys walking and spending time with her family. She has also become involved with the Avon fundraising for Breast Cancer research.
Robin Wilcox joined CLC in 2017 as one of the teachers in the red room. Robin and her husband have three boys, Logan, Evan and Austin. Robin has been a stay at home mom for ten years. During this time she home schooled her older children, including baby sign language in her teaching. Robin has been active in Cub Scouts and has been a Den Leader for the past two years. In her free time Robin enjoys cooking, crafting (especially sewing), camping and traveling.
Velma O'Sullivan - has been a part of the Creative Learning Center staff since 2002. She began working as a substitute teacher at CLC when her youngest daughter attended the Children's Day Out program and has loved it ever since. She finds working at CLC very rewarding and most of all enjoys all the children at CLC. Velma also enjoys reading and also being a soccer and cheer mom. She and her husband, Jimmy, have two daughters, Alyssa and Eilish.
